Acer Laptops
Acer is regarded as a company in the second tier when it comes to laptops. On the top tier you have the big name brands such as Sony and Dell which have a big fan base and claim to have the best hardware. However in recent times Acer has been making a big push to become recognised as a top laptop manufacturer, especially on the European Market.
One of the things that set out Acer as being different from many other laptop manufacturers is that they are planning to install Linux on many of its laptops rather than windows. While this might be a good or bad thing depending on how advanced you are when it comes to computers and what you are planning on using your laptop for it definitely shows that Acer is willing to take a gamble to try and improve their user’s experience.
When you are buying a laptop it is important not to just think about the laptop itself but also about what support you are going to get after the purchase. It is inevitable that at some point you will need to contact the customer support team when buying any computer so a company’s reputation for good customer service is important. Unfortunately there are many horror stories on the internet of bad customer service when it comes to Acer laptops. While Acer are known to create high quality laptops that work well in general, if something goes wrong you might have problems getting hold of the support team on the phone and email response is often slow. While this isn’t a surprise when it comes to technological companies it is definitely something to keep in mind.
Acer Aspire Range
If you are thinking of buy an Acer laptop then one of their most popular product ranges is the Acer Aspire. Whether you want to get a desktop replacement laptop or one that is a bit smaller and portable the Aspire range will have something for you.
Acer Aspire 8930-6448 Review
This laptop comes with a Core Duo 2.53GHz processor and $GB of RAM which should be more than enough for the average computer user. It also has a large 18 inch screen so it is perfect for viewing movies on and using other graphical applications but it isn’t so good for travelling – you wouldn’t have the space to use this on a plane for example.
The downside is that it doesn’t have a blue-ray player which is a shame for what is otherwise a great multimedia laptop. While you do get HD playback facilities the fact that you can’t use blu-ray discs on it makes this somewhat of a letdown.
Overall it is a good machine that does its job well, but for the price you are paying it might have been worth adding a bit extra and installing a blu-ray player.
Acer Aspire 5536 Review
This laptop is smaller than the 8930-6449 range so it more able to be a portable machine. It doesn’t have the same level of specifications either with a 2.1GHz processor and 3GB of RAM but it can still pack a punch and is a good all round machine. However if you need high performance for gaming or for graphics editing then it probably isn’t for you.
